A game that prioritizes relaxation: Spirit City Lofi Sessions MINI REVIEW

Updated: May 19

Intro:           The fact is, we don’t need to play a game that has heart-pounding adventures and thrilling quest lines all the time. They have their time and place with the player. Sometimes, I want to relax with Stardew Valley, Animal Crossings: New Horizons, or something simple that creates relaxation within the brain. I think we’ve been so used to asking how good the graphics are, and what kind of weapons can get when sometimes all you need is a simple premise that’s genuine in its appetite. Food for the Brain:     This has to be one of the most relaxing games I’ve ever played. Sorry Animal Crossings. When you get into Spirit City you can either gather different spirits, or you can use this game purely as a way to keep track of a to-do list, as a study aid, or as a timer while doing work. The incorporation of Lofi music is such a nice touch, with the included background sounds it makes this game a wonderful brain massage. Very seldom do we get games that celebrate simply existing in the present moment, and with this title it lets you exist in the world, and take the breather we all so desperately need now and again.         Finding spirits in this game is so much fun and requires some patience. With the right mixture of lighting, what activity you’re doing, and what background sound is on it makes the perfect storm to find spirits. Making environments spirit-ready is crucial, whether that’s turning on the fireplace or some chirping in the background, you’re next friend will be found as you sit with yourself in quiet contemplation, or write your thoughts down. I’m loving this game and what it provides for the player. A little mental relaxation is something so desperately needed in the constant chaos of today. If you need a momentary escape, study/work aid, or a fun spirit-hunting game, this title is for you. I hope more décor options become available, while everything is really cozy and cute I feel like there should be more outfit choices and room décor. I also hope that down the road the 15-minute timer has a subtle alarm that goes off when the fifteen minutes is reached. I kept working and didn’t notice it had gone off.  I built My little slice of heaven in this game, a momentary escape if you will. I hope this game does the same for you. My score: 9/10 This key was sent, the developers did not see the review before it was published.
