Intro Today’s technology is ever-changing, growing and at speeds that are somewhat un-comprehensible. High grade-tech has become somewhat of a necessity in today’s climate with most of the population having to stay at home because of the impact of COVID-19 a lot of people had to learn how to live with technology at a greater intensity, some more so than others. A pandemic does not stop the world from turning and it most definitely did not stop both Microsoft and Sony from selling the new generation of gaming to those of us who have been waiting with trepidation and excitement.
Power Your Dreams in a world of Uncertainty. Thus far over one million Xbox Series X’s and S’s have been sold in comparison to Sony’s PS5 where the most recent numbers I saw for the PS5 sales put it around 118,000. Now, Sony has not yet released what the final number is for how many units were sold and we most likely won’t get that number until the first quarter of 2021. Needless to say both numbers are impressive and this is the biggest launch that both consoles have had so far. Powering your dreams in this climate is tough, needless to say. COVID-19 is making life more difficult than it need be and is challenging everyone financially. My first thought when both consoles released the launch date was “is Xbox, and Sony really going to release a console during the height of a pandemic.” Spoiler alert, they did. As a society we are plagued at times with boredom and it’s as simple as moments of not knowing what to do on a weekend, to what we have now in a pandemic being forced to stay home when society ran on the nine to five equation, too much coffee and hating our relatives on the holidays. But we adapted, learned a new way to live, and are now creating a world from home infused with higher tech, more of the family that we really want to see, and learning more creative means of being independent without having someone looking over our shoulder
The Xbox, the Fridge, the New Monolith. With a new console generation comes now designs, features and capabilities. The Xbox Series X brings new features such as the media share button for game play and pictures, game pass ultimate and a new controller design with a better grip and ergonomics, as well as a HDMI 2.1 chord. The Xbox X as a whole is a PC, just a dedicated one for gaming...and movies, and apps, DVDS. I have said this once and I will say it again do you need an Xbox, no, if you have a very beefy computer that has good specs that will work just as well. The Xbox is just more dedicated to gaming than anything; it is nice having a dedicated piece of software. When you dive into the specs of the Xbox X we can see that it has 12.1 teraflops of GPU, and before you say anything I can feel that some of you are going to ask “Arielle, what’s a teraflop and why do we need to know this?” Well, I’m glad you asked wandering gamer! A Teraflops is a mathematical measurement of a computer’s power, it refers to a processor’s ability to calculate one trillion floating-point operations per second. The Xbox Series X can handle 12 trillion of those operations PER SECOND. Now that’s impressive. The Series X also has boosted frame rate, quick resume, and faster load times to ensure that you don’t have to wait 84 years before the game goes on to the next section.
My take on the Series X
For me personally, I look at the Series X as milestone of how far gaming has come since the 1980’s. We are through with controls that barely fit in our hands and pixilated faces that look like they were chewed on. We now have clarity, clear storylines, realism and more to come in the future. Technology is ever growing changing and enhancing as are the players. As someone who got a little too excited over this release I am happy to say that this console was worth the wait the hype and the excitement I had. Its smooth, sleek, the game play and graphics are phenomenal and the quick share is becoming one of my favorites of its many assets. The only downside that this console has is that I cant play allot of my DVD’s on it. Whether it is because the DVD is old or it only plays blue ray I am unsure. I find that a major inconvenience that I may have to re purchase allot of the movies I already own just because they don’t work on this system. It is an annoyance that as someone who has had her DVD’s from the early 2000’s feels greatly. Now would I recommend getting the Xbox Series X? Yes, but with one caveat. This console is $499 USD plus tax which puts it’s over $500, and if you get a game it can easily go up to $600. This is an investment, and it’s something to really think about before purchasing. Other than that I think this console is wonderful, and is well worth it!
