Back to the start: Halo CE Anniversary Review

Intro: There’s nothing I love more than a video game that held its meaning and purpose over years of being released. A simple game, a complex narrative, a game that has soul that brought so many people together back in the early days of 2001. Halo CE: Anniversary created a bond between characters that translated into a powerful dynamic for players to get enthralled with. The First of its Kind: Before Dead Space, before Alien Isolation, there was Halo. A game in space that truly invented a genre of galactic proportions. Halo, a first-person shooter, focused on the narrative that Halos activation must be stopped. The goal of the ring being activated is to destroy all sentient life in the galaxy. Back in 2001, a concept like this was simply groundbreaking, and shook the foundation of gaming as we know it, creating more of a focus on the story rather than the mechanics. Now today, the Halo series is ranked as one of the best amongst players and for good reason. Cortana is what drives the series, sorry Master Chief. She singlehandedly is one of the best characters ever created. She brought Halos story to life with her witty one liners and enthralling demeanor. Even Keyes character brought a sense of impactfullness and urgency that the story would have lacked if it had only relied on master chief. The Master Chiefs character in the first game felt very throwaway and mundane, as if Bungie were only using him as a building block for other characters to thrive. The one thing about this game that made me eternally frustrated over was the cars mechanics. Yes, I know its 2001, I should be more lenient, but driving in this game was painful. Many More to come: Seeing as this was my first time playing any Halo game, I was nervous, I was anxious diving into one of the most popular games out there. I am happily surprised at how much I loved this game. From the story, to lack of bugs, to seeing how the 2001 version looked in comparison to the re-master. It was a humbling exciting experience that I won’t forget. The lack of bugs and smoothness of this game surprised me and took me off guard. I’m really pleased at the care that this game was given. If you haven’t played Halo yet, play it. it shows us storytelling, action and truly immersive cut scenes that were, I believe something that paved the way for other games to start doing. Halo walked, so other games could run. personal score 9.5/10
