Intro:
Whether you’re a child of the ’80s, or '90s, or just have a thing for clowns the cult classic film, Killer Klowns from Outer Space is one of the strangest, yet oddly satisfyingly funny movies that ever graced my eyes. The fact that Killer Klowns got turned into a game is something I never knew I needed in my life. Playing as the very thing I’m afraid of, wrapping people up in cotton candy, and experiencing the late 80s brought into the modern day is both fun and terrifying.
Fun, creepy, and heavily nostalgic:
During my time with this game I played as a killer Klown, and boy oh boy was that the best middle finger I ever gave to a fear of mine. Some people get tattoos, I play what I fear the most, in games. The game played with people is, I imagine more fun than that with the bots, the bots provide a great practice tool for the real thing, but without your friends, but it's not as fun. The Killer Klown has some great weapons to utilize, but the one I used primarily was the cotton candy zapper (not an official name).
Existing in the same arena as Dead by Deadlight, Vampire the Masquerade Blood Hunt, and The Demonologist may prove difficult in the long run, but since there aren’t too many clown games as of late this will prove an exciting entry in the niche. With the base of the story of this game being derived from the movie, it makes me happy to see that movie-to-game adaptations are possibly coming back. It's great to see when a company has fun with a game, and accurately puts things from the movie they are adapting into the said game. It makes the whole experience fun, immersive, and well-thought-out.
A fight for humanity: This game is a 3v7 asymmetric horror multiplayer experience, so when playing this it won’t be like playing Dead by Daylight where there is only one enemy to fight. There are three Killer Klowns against seven humans. There are also five escape routes instead of just one, there are items that you need to locate and things to accomplish to make these locations ready to use. Once you’ve been through enough runs during your time playing the game you’ll slowly but surely get the hang of it. There are many ways to save the world when you play as a human or finish the invasion as a Klown. However you choose to play, as one of the five Klown types or as one of the humans this game is easy to get the hang of, and takes teamwork to get to the finish line unscathed. I love that this game is one of the ones that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and is just a fun time all around. The quirky comedy was kept from the movie and that’s what Made Killer Klowns so iconic, was its unbashful comedy and borderline cringy sense of humor. The 80s was a time of experimentation in storytelling, and to see a game company make a game based on the movie that inspired unconventional (in the best way) storytelling is fun to witness. This game was sent to me, Teravision games did not read this article before it was posted.
