Crazy half naked men chasing you is normal right? Not in everyday life, but in this game it sure is! Your are Miles Upshur investigative journalist Mount Massive Asylum where there have been several inhuman experiments that have been taking place. Your only choice is to hide, run or die, choose wisely.
OUTLAST is a first person psychological horror game created by red barrels in 2013, this game will have you become a bloodied up mess with each step, and question your mind when you make each move that brings you closer to the truth of what is hidden behind the asylums walls. Diving further into this game you will see why everyone went mad and you will probably question your own sanity too. Ok, I will admit. This was the first horror game that made me cringe, not because of the blood, the body bits or the naked man chasing me. Its was none of that, but the sheer fact of not knowing what was coming next. I cant count how many times I have completed this game, only to be more enthralled with the gameplay! This game is a first person perspective, so I was worried that it would take away the horror feel. But no. It did just the opposite, it made the experience more immersive, and when I first played the game I was actually scared, but after playing it for a third time I really just enjoyed the experience and the story which was being delivered. The plotline was one of the best I’ve seen since resident evil, but OUTLAST is a new kind of horror that brings the concept of not being able to fight, with the new world technology of amazing graphics and an on point story. OUTLAST carried its own weight when it came to being a survivalist type of game. No, you don’t get a fancy gun, or super sonic speed but you get something even better, THE CHANCE TO OUTWIT OPPONANTS. Yes I know it sounds tedious but well worth it! For me, when I first played OUTLAST, I sucked. No, I’m not joking I SUCKED, I was terrible at being a survivalist in an asylum, but by the end of it I was running around so much that I looked like one of the crazy people I was running from. in the beginning of the game things go from point a to point hide, you soon encounter this “man” I put man in quotes since he was a man, but now he’s just a thing. This “man” is called Chris walker, a patient of the asylum turned into a beast. After a very brutal encounter with Chris, you come in contact with a priest named of Father Martin Archimbaud, who has Schizotypal personality disorder , who claims Miles is his "apostle who will save us all” this man who is basically a self-proclaimed priest, becomes our guide throughout the game and helps us escape. Now The next portion will have details of the game that will give the ending away, so if you have not played this I would suggest seeing my playthrough or playing it first if you don’t want it spoiled for you! Father Martin takes us through the emotions quite literally as he guides us through the asylum, and different parts of its estate, he’s like that creepy owner for a rickety hotel chain that has had too much beer and a bad past.. the walls of the asylum basically screamed for help as you claw your way to an unforeseeable freedom. The plotline grow more intense as you meet several characters that seem crazy but actually just want you to know how messed up this place actually is. Now let’s dive into something which I thought was a nice touch that was added into the game. Not all of the patients want to kill you. I know, shocking right? Not all of these patients are out for your head, just some of them was to see you quiver. Allot of the patients in the game let you know that “if you make allot of noise your dead” or “don’t run around me” its various things like that, that caught me off guard and made me love the game ever more. Speaking of characters that want to see you quiver….Lets talk about the doctor, my favorite character in this game! The doctor is in, and you can see his butt..No, literally you can see his butt behind the Tarzan esque one piece he’s wearing. The doctor is a very colorful character in the sense that he makes you curious, he has a brilliant vocabulary, and uses some (in the beginning to lure Miles in) nuro linguistic programming. The same type of language we saw in The Evil Within Two used by father Theodore.
The doctor has this long discussion about gods work, and how the priest is trying to turn us into his lamb of god. The doctor has this sassy undertaker vibe that really intrigues me and makes me want to see him in his own DLC. Blood rushing to you face and all other extremities, as you experience the removal of a limb. Who am I kidding, that made it sound pleasant, the doctor will chop off your hand and you have to be ok with it. Miles, still a champ throws up, and carries on recording and writing notes. I’m sorry, but how are you vlogging, writing notes, jumping, and getting away from enemies ALL WITHOUT YOUR HAND. I admire Miles. His an upstanding human. Now as usual with any horror game you have notes, but this game has wonderfully well crafted morbid notes. They scream at you from the page in horrific delight, and will have you begging for mercy when finished reading. So would I recommend this game? In a heartbeat! This is a heart-pounding thriller that will make you question your sanity, and squeal all at the same time! #outlast #gaming #horrorgames #redbarrels
