From the ground Up: Resident Evil Two (Remake) Review (WARNING SPOILERS)

Updated: May 15, 2021

So you exploded the mansion, you got through Wesker's disappearing act, and still managed to get back to RPD in one piece. But the nightmare isn’t over yet. The choices you make draw your chances of survival, so who will it be? Will you choose Claire Redfield, a young woman with an attitude looking for her brother Chris, or will you choose Leon S Kennedy, A rookie cop on his first day ready to take on anything! Resident Evil two is a third-person psychological horror that was originally released January 21st, 1998, and was re-built from the ground up and released January 25th, 2019. The game has been rebooted, and rebuilt but has kept the same maps, characters, and nostalgic vibe that it had carried in its younger days. When I was younger and much smaller and unaware of the impact of gaming I thought of this game as a mere game, I didn’t think of the story or the ways that it would impact my mind in future years. I enjoyed it for what it was, I enjoyed it the way I feel like a game should be enjoyed to an extent. In the moment, and unfiltered. Nowadays we have expectations and requirements for a game that when not met we get slightly agitated or disappointed. In resident Evil Two you can choose to play as either rookie cop, Leon S. Kennedy, or Claire Redfield. Now much like the first Resident Evil game you have herbs, missions, and puzzles to complete. This game was really the first of its kind to create an atmosphere where you had to think your way out of a particularly sticky situation. Resident Evil two created a somewhat questionable transition from the first game. The reason I say a “somewhat questionable transition” is because there are some things just didn’t line up from the first game, then resident evil 0 then the second game. The major thing I noticed in this game where the storylines didn’t seem in unison was where we met the tyrant. In the first game, we meet the tyrant/Mr. X at the end of the game in the laboratory, we have a fight with him then he disappears, then we meet the tyrant again in resident evil Zero. But, in resident evil zero the tyrant isn’t held captive in his water cell containment unit. The Tyrant is roaming free. The reason I even bring this up is because Resident Evil Zero is a prequel, so how was it even possible for the Tyrant to be out of the containment unit that Wesker had him hooked up to? I understand the plotline if it just went from Resident Evil One to Two, but if we are going in a logical order from Resident Evil Zero, one then two the story somewhat breaks apart. So let’s just take the information we are given from the first to the second game for right now. Mr. X goes shopping at the big and tall store and gets a snazzy new look. Get some work done, have some contour going, and is a brand new man, out to kill us and takes the word “stalker to a whole new level. When playing this game, the brought back everything I loved about Resident Evil Two. They revamped the entire map and even extended the dialogue between characters so instead of saying. “Oh yeah, it's here. Be safe. Bye.” The dialogue goes into elaborate detail and structure to the point where it becomes tangible, and it puts you through an emotional ride along with the character. Truth be told, I did not expect to be as blown away by this game as I am. They re did a lot to make the story flow, such as adding better dialogue, more facial expression when characters communicate, and smoother transitions of the A.I’s when playing the gamer overall! So, if you guys enjoyed the game and have played both runs of Leon and Claire let me know in the comment section. This game was brilliantly remade and created more fluidity in the plotline and gameplay!
