Lies of P complete edition is now out on the Switch 2! Getting to play it on multiple platforms has been a treat and so much fun to see how each system handles the game. Now, since I already have a full review out on my first time experience with Lies of P when I first played it, this review with go over the following: I’ll be diving into the tech, as well as something I’ve wanted to discuss that I didn’t the first time I covered Lies of P.

There are so many new things, quality of life improvements, difficulty settings, and accessibility features in this game. This sets Lies of P apart from a lot of Soulslikes, making it the more friendly option for those wanting to dive in head first, or to simply dip their toes into the soulslike pool.

Prepare to Lie

From customizing your own weapons, to exploring the city of Krat and all its mysteries, Lies of P enhances the soulslike experience. Having Lies of P ported to the Switch 2 allows for not just portability, but for the game to reach a new audience.  Reaching a new audience with this port is singlehandedly the most important thing Neowiz could do with where the game is currently in its existence.

The game isn't new, it was released three years ago, but it’s new to someone who owns a Switch and no other piece of gaming hardware. Going through several bosses and now up to area five, it's safe to say that if you own a Switch 2, Lies of P should be one of your priorities to purchase.  From the story and how it unfolds to the side quests, and so many ways to make a unique build, Lies of P and its DLC are the definition of cozy gaming for a soulslike gamer.

So, How Does it Run?

As soon as you load Lies of P complete edition into your Switch 2, note that there is a day one patch:

- Performance mode outputs an upscaled 1080p resolution targeting a maximum 60 FPS.

- Balanced mode  outputs an upscaled 1080p resolution targeting a maximum40 FPS

- Quality mode outputs an upscaled 1440p resolution targeting a maximum 30 FPS

For all everyone who has motion sickness, motion blur can now be toggled on or off in setting ->gameplay, this is for TV mode only.

Seeing the way Lies of P ran on console was one thing, but seeing how it runs on PC and now the Switch 2 shows just how beautifully optimized this game really is. When I first took a look at how Lies of P ran on the switch, I was impressed but there were several issues I faced. The main one being the sensitivity of the controls. Even when it was turned down all the way, it was still incredibly sensitive. I’m happy to say that the sensitivity isn't nearly as bad, and with having it turned down all the way it’s perfect for how I play. So for those of you who suffer from motion sickness like myself, I feel like you’ll have a better time with the controls.

The graphical pop-ins aren’t great, and as I’ve played the game more there are a lot of them. Especially in St. Frangelico Cathedral Library. If you’re sensitive to the graphical pop-ins, be aware they will be scattered throughout the game. I also checked if the auto-advance for dialogue is on the PC version, and it is! So it’s safe to assume that it's also on the console version as well!  I also addressed the vibration sensitivity, I would highly recommend that if you’re sensitive to vibrations (since they can indirectly contribute to motion sickness), I would turn it down to its lowest setting, or off.

After playing through more than half of Lies of P on the Switch 2, it has the same reliable performance as if I were to play it on the PC. Now I will say, if you’re more sensitive to pop-ins, I would play it on PC since the pop-in rate is significantly less. You’ll find more pop-ins with consoles and the switch more so than PC from what I’ve noticed.

Lies of P Makes it Know, that it’s Not Going Anywhere

I want to talk about the specters in Lies of P. I love them, they have helped me through many a- battle, but I have a few notes on them after playing Lies of P on the Switch 2. In Dark Souls, the NPCs that fight with us during boss battles are part of the story, they are the characters we meet during the adventure. The specter is interesting, because they aren’t a character we meet in the game. I know there are several theories floating around about who the specter really is. Are they another version of P from a different timeline, or are they a wish manifested. “When you wish upon a star” apparently, no request is too extreme.

As I traverse Lies of P for the third time, I think about how cool it would be for the NPC’s we meet to have a role as the specter in the bosses we encounter! Needing to go on certain questlines to obtain them as a possible ally.  I think it would be so much fun to see the battle maniac help you fight against King Flame Fuoco.

Lies of P being added to the Switch 2’s roster is an exciting thing, from reaching a new audience, to being the perfect cuddle up on the couch title. With a solid launch, and releasing the base game and its DLC in one package, Neowiz is giving other companies that want to emulate the souls franchise a new bar to reach. Not just in how a souls like runs in its trueness to form, but being available on all platforms for players to enjoy.
