INTRO: In the search for solace, peace, and rescue their home Noctis and his friends go on a journey to save a kingdom in peril. With psychological and philosophical themes, I will be diving into the following concepts shown in the game. The way a typical “good an evil storyline” got a very philosophical take, the psychology behind Noct’s Final Fantasy, and my opinion on the game as a first-timer diving into the series regarding controls graphics and storyline. Good and Evil Get Upgrade: good and evil is a tale as old as time, the yin and yang, the way evil is portrayed, and how good must triumph. In the story of Final Fantasy XV, the lines of good and evil are blurred ever so slightly and we think that those who are actually there to hurt us may be a good guy. Evil knows how to manipulate the willing heart and Noct is the perfect recipient. Wanting to find a way back to luna, his father died, and now the weight of his kingdom on his shoulders he will do anything to fight for what’s right and for his people. Throughout the story the main antagonist playing as a good guy at certain points is Ardyn. Ardyn's character is a complex one and fits the story of this game very nicely in that he was utilized to move the story forward and was a motivator for Nocts success at the end eventually casting him out. Now, one of the main reasons why this character is interesting is that he can heal people by taking on their ailments, making him this grey area character between good and evil. Long story short his soul was absorbed by the crystal that was sent to a celestial realm where humans can not set foot in making Ardyn immortal. This character is very diverse and sets the entire precedent for how good and evil are structured throughout the game. Ardyns character was well designed and made me question his motives through the entirety of the game. The Final Fantasy Noct Always Wanted: Noctis is an interesting character, at first, I thought he was an entitled guy who complained a lot but towards the end of the game, you see his empathy and heart really shine through. The pain, the torment, and life that ultimately comes through Noctis while playing this game is like reading of Sisyphus pushing the boulder. Getting further, only to go ten steps back. He’s the most human character ive seen in a game where you could really feel the love and loss he felt for Luna and his brothers. A campfire will never look the same for me ever again.
The psychology of Noct is a wonderfully complex one. As I began to see more of his character and unravel the nuances, and traits he held I noticed one key thing about him, and that’s his inability to handle problems head on and pretending like they don’t exist. Maybe he internalizes things to a point where he pushes them away so he doesn’t have to deal with it, that is, until the end of the game where all his problems become the center of the story and he has to conquer them all. His character is unique, multifaceted, and (I know this bit may be a stretch) but Prompto, Ignis, Gladiou are a part of Noctis. Even when Noct dies, the others bring him back to life. Even in the final scene when they are all at the campsite he is one with his family, with his friends. They act as one unit and I think it's really fitting that the game ended the way that it did. After telling his friends that they are the best, Noct finally gets his Final Fantasy with his beloved Luna, and they get married in the afterlife. Cue the waterworks. Killing a demon once human, and celebrating in an afterlife made fit for a king. My First Final Fantasy, and Final Thoughts: as a first-time player of the Final Fantasy series I am so please, happy and elated with this game. I know it's not a favorite among many Final Fantasy fans from what I hear but for me, it was really such a wonderful experience. When I tell you I CRIED during this game, I got emotional, I felt like I connected with the characters, and that this game was overall fun and heartwarming experience. as far as the controls go, they were lacking. There were crashes, bugs, and things I wish Square Enix would provide patches for at some point. The graphic work was some of the most beautiful I have ever seen and made for the most perfect gaming photography moments. This game will forever hold a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to play the rest of the games in the series.
