Intro: The world of hero’s is needed again, to fight for us, to help us and make us feel less alone during a time when we need to see the hero in ourselves. Overwatch through all its controversy, toxic gamers and funny moments created a community that just wants to be heroes, if for only a day. Controversy, love and Confusion: In the world of Overwatch, we play as the hero in the FPS/hero shooter, the story gets in-depth so that won’t be covered in today’s first impression. With Overwatch 2 the game has a lot of the same principles with some new things added. So, what’s changed, and what can you expect from this new, shiny version of Overwatch. The two biggest notable changes are the move to 5v5 and the fact that Overwatch 2 is free to play. The free to play move will encourage a lot newer players to join, who otherwise wouldn't have. This new format feels less clunky, and more comfortable for players new and old to play and battle in. there’s new sound designs, sharper textures and overall, a more immersive experience than Overwatch 1 was. There will also be a new playable character every 6 months, which spices up things A LOT more than the previous installment. With not only new characters being added but new maps and new game modes. AND with loot boxes gone I feel as if Overwatch 2 will be a more family friendly experience to a degree. Just keep the little ones off of voice chat. My experience: Throughout my time playing and leveling up in Overwatch two I was feeling how I did in 2016 when I first played it. A smile washed across my face, and memories of a simpler time of being a young content creator, not knowing what FPS even was caressed my thoughts. This game has been made more fun, and I feel as if the dev’s understood the assignment and added all the things we wanted but kept all the things we loved about Overwatch. In regards to the acquisition, and how this game will be approached and received by the audience, its truly going to be a mixed bag.
Personally, I didn’t play this game for a while because of everything that was happening at blizzard. The community wants to see those responsible for harassment HELD responsible. As a game reviewer I have an obligation to you, the gaming community to bring you what the reality of a situation is and cover the game all in one stroke. The developers, the artist and everyone involved worked hard on this game, and as a community we mustn’t punish the people who worked on the game, but rather the people who created an unlivable environment for those who worked at Blizzard. While I love this game, I love the people who work on it more. I want to see this company get better, and while steps have been taken, the journey is still a long one.
