Season One episode 2 was a mixture of emotions cascading laughs, and flowing tears. This episode sets up the rest of the season nicely, taking the memories I had from Fallout 3, more specifically the town of (what appears to be) Megaton. I felt the story of the games organically come to life making this live-action story a true portrayal and continuation of the Fallout games. A helping paw, and sort of blind justice: In episode two of Fallout, we see the continuation of all our main characters, Lucy, Maximus, and Ghoul each setting out in their own story interwoven, meeting at the height of the episode. Maximus finally gets to wear the cherished suit of the Brotherhood, after letting a rather snooty (for lack of a better word) comrade perish. Getting to wear the suit was the culmination of his work, dreams, and hope; seeing his face light up was like seeing a kid open their presents on Christmas. Going over to Lucy's story is one of confronting her naivety of the world and everyone involved. Confronting surface dwellers and in her innocence is brought to the realization that not everyone cares about the greater cause of humans and "saving America". By the end of the episode, she REALLY goes out of her comfort zone, to say the least, putting the goal and mission of finding her father above the comfort of getting her hands a bit dirty shall we say. Going to who the Ghoul is, and what he represents in this episode and potentially the rest of the season is intriguing. He's technically "the bad guy" but saving dogmeat showcases his humanity has remained intact throughout his existence. The persecution and hatred toward Ghouls was one of the most prevalent things in the Fallout games and to see it being brought to life in the show makes me even more confident in the rest of the series. Keeping true to the story of any game, for any adaptation is the most important part in creating a live-action. The gory aspects added in are what also make Fallout, Fallout. Throughout the game limbs are being crushed, legs missed, and amputated arms, and keeping the almost gross hilarity is another key factor in making the Fallout world come to life. Fallout is wild, and untamed, and has dark humor mixed with sincere optimism, this episode brought the humanity from the games to life in the show. I can't wait to see what happens in episode three!
