The Death of Democracy: Far Cry 6

Fascists, reign, and Power: Far cry 6 is an open world action adventure first person shooter that dives into the story of a fascist regime stuck in the past and not moving forward anytime soon. Far Cry 6 delivers on the notion that the character you play as will save Yara and potentially end the rule of a dictator that said all the right things and but created society that is divided, corrupt and freedom hungry.

A Collapsed Society: Starting out in this game, I thought this would have been the run of the mill shooter that had very little story depth and meaning. With every passing moment and cut scene the story enriched, and I felt myself becoming more and more memorized. This is not your typical shooter game that is overly simplified. FarCry 6 has depth, meaning and is conscious of the world and the economic and political impacts of countries all over the globe. This game also does something that not a lot of open world games do, it sticks to the story at hand. It doesn't cliff dive into several other stories. It has other storylines, but you dont have to play those until after the game if you choose. throughout every chapter and sub chapter it sticks with to the story and that is incredibly impressive, especially with how big this game is. With a story that resonates with its players on the current state of the world politically it’s amazing that this game was not talked about more with discussions on freedom in other countries, wanting freedom and the concept of unity instead of division. This game dives into so many topics that make the player think, and brings things home in a way that's understandable, and real.

Humanity: While a lot of things in this game are rather simple, the controls, the mechanics the way in which objectives are set up the story and characters make this game what it is. Take away the story and you basically have Call of Duty. I never understood why people really liked FarCry games and with this one being the first time I ever played one in the series I get why they’re so popular. The game takes a shooting game and turns it into an undeniable experience that makes the player interested and invested. By the end of FarCry 6 emotions ran high and I felt as if I ran a marathon With Dani, Clara and Aton. Seeing the lack of humanity and distrust a society has for its leaders it’s something I never thought I would ever see so accurately mimicked in a game. FarCry 6 represents countries that are freedom starved and mimicked how Americans view the political system. Everyone in the world is tired and hungry for a new chapter, one of bliss and property, not sadness and anxiety of what’s to come.

A Brutal Leader: “The Child is father of the Man” When Aton’s son steps into the picture this game take a turn that shows the humanity of what came from a brutal dictator. Now again being that this was my first FarCry experience I didn’t know what to expect, and being that in the beginning of the game everything is thrown at the player all at once I wasn’t sure how to take it at times. The story is incredible but a little slow to start. If that’s not your thing and you want a quick story that’s not a slow brew I would advise against this game. But since I really enjoy getting to know that characters, their motives and seeing what the game can offer, I like a little slow brew in my stories.

Aton’s son created this divisiveness in the story in where Dani wanted to keep him safe, while other Guerilla wanted him dead just as much as the father. Later in the game players will see just how important of a character he is and how he set the tone of the game from beginning to end.

Freedom: As the journey went on, I was on the edge of my seat with every passing chapter. This game is a long one, so be prepared for 20 plus hours of game play. If you are a completionist, there is over 100+ of game play. Certain chapters will also go by quicker than others, with one chapter being a mere conversation, or an entire extraction of captives, it can very. I truly enjoyed this game and all it had to offer, with amazing diverse characters like Bembe Alveraz and the inclusion of a Transgender character, FarCry 6 really got down the concept of there being multiple types of people and not just one type. Whether FPS games are your type of game or not, the story itself is one of merit and strength, that showed diversity, strength in struggle and pieces of peace within chaos. As Janis Joplin so kindly put it, freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose…
