The Illuminati meets zombies: Resident Evil Four Review (WARNING SPOILERS)

Updated: May 15, 2021

The truth is, we have no clue what is out there by way of unknown creatures, vampires, zombies, and creatures that lurk under the sea. But what we do know is that through the mysteries of the world we have the Illuminati, a powerful group of people that can change your view to follow a cult-like perspective (if you let them that is.)

In the game Resident Evil Four, we meet up with special agent Leon S Kennedy, who is on a mission to save the president’s daughter, Ashley from the cult group, the Los Illuminados. Now this Resident Evil, like any other, has zombies but not just any zombies. These zombies were affected by a form of the T-Virus called Las Plagas, which attaches itself to the host through injection and then will allow them to be controlled by the plagas master Lord Saddler. Now before I get ahead of myself let me clarify, the Plagas is a subform of the T-Virus, it’s the same thing but takes a different form in each host, by allowing a parasite to grow once the head is removed from the spinal column.

This Resident Evil is really different from the rest because it merges a shooter-style game, with a third person perspective, on top of adding an immersive story. I first played this game in 2005 and since I had been playing video games for some time I got accustomed to the gory nature that games were providing. To be honest with you all, this game has a lot in it, there is a lot of substance and heft to this third-person player which is why I had such a difficult time pinpointing what exactly I wanted to focus on in this review. You have the fact that the Illuminati is made as to the centerpiece of this universe, there is a new form of the T-Virus (las plagas) that enters into the Resident Evil, and the intertwining of Resident Evil Stories previous that links with the entire plotline of Resident Evil to make it more cohesive and well constructed. in this plotline, even though it is the same Resident Evil story, only expanded, it has new dimensions added to it to continue the story in such a way that it breathes a new life into it. I will warn you, there is a character that you might not like, or you might even hate at a certain point. The very person you are meant to find and rescue, Ashley Graham…..How should I put this, Ashly is, whiney...Ok, not just whiney she is a self-righteous, selfish little brat that just needs to learn how to use a gun, get out of hiding and grow a pair. I feel like the developer added her in just to piss us, the player off. She makes mercy kills look justified, and makes me never want to have children of my own. Ok, that was a little much, but you get my point. Ashley is far worse than ANY boss battle, Ashley is...An average white girl...Good luck. But when fighting the multitudes of creatures you have a momentary thought of panic and think "Just the thing we need a new brand of zombies, creatures that regenerate and a cult leader that will illuminate your path to a new way of living." Through a little injection, a few whispers in your ear to persuade you, and a pinch of pain to ensure that things go smoothly. Now, through the story, we meet a few old friends that appear to help us and hurt us at the same time. Leon encounters his old friend Krauser who supposedly died in a plane crash but now works for an umbrella. We also encounter the character we all know and love, Ada Wong. Ada may be a lover, maybe a friend who knows but what we do know is that I ship the both of them, I know it's unprofessional but come one, you can't say that they wouldn’t make really cute babies.

The one thing that had me in a bit of a rut through playing the game was the camera work. I felt like I was playing the Wii again and I do not need a flashback of Leon's junk in my face after a boss battle. The camera and the controls that went along with it made me slightly dizzy and confused. If this is the remastered version, shouldn’t the controls have a sense of fluidity to them? Other than that the controls were effortless and very easy to handle. But with all this said, should you play this game? Yes, I believe that besides Resident Evil One, it was a nice combo of action and a good continuation of the story to keep the plotline flowing!
