In a world filled with gunslingers, Tobacco spitters, and outlaws there is a group that has made a plan for themselves to make their mark, then leave without a trace to follow them. Dutch and the gang of misfits, gentlemen, and murderers manipulate their way through life and leave no stone unturned, no gun unholstered. Red Dead Redemption Two is the story of men, women, and children who fight their way through hell and back just to say “we did it! We made it, we may have killed a lot of folks but here’s our story.” Red Dead Redemption Two is a prequel to the first game Red Dead Redemption. Now as a person whose Xbox List consists of mostly horror games I had trepidations about this game. Will it is boring, will I not like it then have to admit to my audience that I thought it was bad? None of that happened, which I am rather grateful for. Throughout my time playing this game I had a sense of awe in not just the developmental constructs, but in the storyline and how well it was executed in an open-world format. When this game was gifted to me to play on my YouTube channel, I was hesitant, not because of the game but because I normally don’t accept gifts from my viewers. There are a lot of things you could be doing with that money. Regardless the support means everything, and I found a game I love because of it, so thank you. There is a lot about Red Dead Redemption Two that I loved, hated, and was just downright annoyed by and we will be getting into it all today! with the way the “universe” in this game works, I was very skeptical in thought on how an open-world wild west game could really work. There are so many technical things that must be brought into accountability. How will the storyline flow from the first game to the second game, (especially as a prequel) how will the open-world aspect help the game, is an open-world needed, how will you make every character coherent, even the NPC’s. There is a lot to take into consideration. With this game, I feel it was a rarity that they hit the nail on the head with almost every aspect of the game! The reason I say almost is for two reasons. One, there was too much horse riding. When I say too much, I mean way too much to the point of where I would be silent for two to four minutes at a time in my playthroughs just because I was riding from one location to another. You would think that the meditative state of riding would make the game more enjoyable, but it was an unneeded experience during gameplay. They really meant it when they said the open world didn’t, they? The other thing I found pointless was the addition of “Gurma” when Arthur and the gang got lost on this island they were acting as if Gilligan’s Island was a wild west parody. That entire section of the game was idiotic, and I felt as if they were dragging it out just to make the game longer. being that those were the only things that I did not like about the game, everything else really took me by surprise. I never thought I would love a non-horror game as much as I do this one. This game made me laugh so much my sides hurt, it made me hate the characters, it made me cry for those that lost their dignity in the struggle to find themselves, and it made me love the history of America more so than I already did. The game encapsulates the thing that other games leave out. Humanity. It made me want to know these characters in real life, it made the journey exciting and the manipulation they went through tangible. Throughout the history of the wild west, there were stories, folklore, and life situations that made the game really stand out. Especially the story they added of the Saint-Denis Vampire. In New Orleans the stories of vampires were endless and fruitful, so adding not just the history of the world which they lived in but the lore that came with it made the game well-rounded and exciting to play! there is a lot more I could dive into with this game. There is a lot more that could be discussed, but today the vague pen writes and leaves the curious mind to no rest. I would recommend this game in a heartbeat! Be wary of course, if you are not accustomed to longer games that are open world. The gameplay is intensive and will take you a few weeks to complete.
