Intro: Vampire the Masquerade has been crafted over the years to deliver the best in storytelling, character development and bringing what was originally a TTRPG to life in a way that would revolutionize how storytelling is constructed in games that have a linear construction. Vampire the Masquerade: Coteries of NY creates an immersive surrounding that is delivered through a narrative experience building tension as the player wades their way through a power struggle between two different factions. Tale as Old As Time: A vampire’s story is a tale as old as time itself, Vampire the Masquerade: Coteries of New York is a narrative splendor filled with multiple choices, routes and ways to complete a quest or even the entire game. it’s not your typical horror game either, it has noises that may jump a player but nothing that is outright scary. Just like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (2004), this is created around the same way of playing the game. The player chooses the clan they want to be a part of (you can only pick from three clans), it starts the player off with their birth into vampirism, and the story aspects are similar to that of Bloodlines. Navigating you way through the world of a kindred, and most of a kindred in New York makes the setting perfect, in combination with the ambiatic noises and music this was truly a unique experience and installment in the World of Darkness. A lot of Character In a Short Adventure:
With mainlining the game, and completing the main story in 4.4 hours, I would highly recommend this game. The narrative is entrancing, the art design is beautifully crafted, and dialogue is witty and well-constructed. The game, depending on how you play it can range from four hours (mainlining it) to ten hours of game play (more of a completionist game play). I really loved the story and how each character was portrayed, each one showcasing their own distinct personality and demeanor. I don’t have many critiques of this game considering it is primarily a narrative based game with no controls to worry about with, as stated previously an incredibly linear journey.
The light of the big apple shines on the vampires holding tight to the masquerade, either living cautiously or dancing fearlessly in the face of the prince and her reign. Personal Score: 9.5/10
